Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati on Tuesday slammed the recent increase in fuel prices, asserting that the move will have a severe impact on the lives of poor and working-class families in Uttar Pradesh. In a statement, she accused the state and central governments of neglecting the common man's plight.
Mayawati's Criticism of Fuel Price Hike
Mayawati expressed her strong disapproval of the fuel price hike, which has led to a rise in petrol and diesel rates across the country. She argued that the increase would disproportionately burden the economically weaker sections of society, including daily wage laborers, small traders, and transport operators. The BSP chief urged the government to reconsider its decision and provide relief to the masses.
Impact on the Common Man
The former Uttar Pradesh chief minister highlighted that the fuel price hike would trigger a cascading effect on the prices of essential commodities, further straining household budgets. She noted that poor families already struggling with inflation would find it even harder to make ends meet. Mayawati also pointed out that the hike would increase transportation costs, affecting the livelihoods of those dependent on public transport and goods movement.
Mayawati's Call for Action
Mayawati called upon the central and state governments to roll back the price increase and implement measures to shield the vulnerable from its adverse effects. She emphasized the need for a balanced approach that ensures development without compromising the welfare of the poor. Her remarks come amid widespread discontent over rising fuel prices, which have touched record highs in several cities.
