Thiruvananthapuram: Former CPM functionary G Sudhakaran, who won from Ambalappuzha as an independent candidate with the support of the United Democratic Front (UDF), was sworn in as a member of the legislative assembly (MLA) at Lok Bhavan on Wednesday morning. As he had been appointed pro-tem speaker, the oath was administered before Governor Rajendra Arlekar. Following this, Sudhakaran also took oath as the pro-tem speaker.
Ceremony and Attendance
Chief Minister V D Satheesan and members of the cabinet attended the function. Speaking to reporters later, Sudhakaran expressed happiness about returning to the assembly once again as an MLA. He stated, "I am happy to be returning to the assembly once again as an MLA."
Response to Political Debates
When asked about discussions regarding whether former Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan would take oath before him, Sudhakaran said he had no interest in such debates. He emphasized his focus on his responsibilities as pro-tem speaker.
Upcoming Duties
As pro-tem speaker, Sudhakaran will administer the oath to newly elected MLAs during the swearing-in ceremony to be held in the assembly on Thursday. Additionally, he will preside over the election of the speaker on Friday. The event marks a significant moment in Kerala's political landscape, with Sudhakaran's transition from a CPM member to an independent MLA backed by the UDF.
