Gujarat Government Commits Rs 1,100 Crore for Tribal Area Development

In a significant move to boost infrastructure and welfare in tribal regions, the Gujarat state government on Sunday sanctioned a substantial allocation of Rs 1,100 crore for multiple development projects across the districts of Panchmahal and Dahod. The announcement was made through an official statement that highlighted the government's focus on enhancing the quality of life in these areas.

Massive Project Inauguration Across Two Districts

Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel personally presided over ceremonies to lay foundation stones and inaugurate a total of 112 projects valued at Rs 732 crore in Panchmahal district. Simultaneously, in Dahod district, over 1,200 projects worth Rs 367 crore were launched, marking one of the largest concentrated development initiatives in the state's tribal belt.

Flagship Lift Irrigation Pipeline Project

A centerpiece of this development push is a major lift irrigation pipeline project costing Rs 406 crore. This ambitious engineering endeavor is designed to transport water from the Panam reservoir to 130 ponds spread across 79 villages in the Shehra, Godhra, Kalol, and Ghoghamba regions of Panchmahal district.

The technical specifications of this project are particularly noteworthy. Water will be lifted from a height of 236 feet and distributed through an extensive pipeline network stretching 205 kilometers. Upon completion, this irrigation system is projected to provide water access to approximately 86,000 hectares of agricultural land, potentially transforming local farming capabilities.

Government's Broader Irrigation Strategy

Speaking at the inauguration event, Chief Minister Patel emphasized the government's sustained commitment to irrigation infrastructure in tribal areas. He revealed that the administration has already implemented 11 lift irrigation schemes covering 2.23 lakh acres of land at a cumulative cost of Rs 3,160 crore.

Looking forward, Patel announced that the government has made a budgetary allocation of Rs 485 crore specifically for lift irrigation projects in the 2026-27 fiscal year, with a clear focus on expanding irrigation facilities in tribal regions.

Comprehensive Development Across Sectors

Beyond irrigation, the newly sanctioned funds will support a wide array of development initiatives. The projects inaugurated and initiated span critical sectors including:

  • Healthcare infrastructure to improve medical access
  • Educational facilities to enhance learning opportunities
  • Road network expansion to improve connectivity
  • Water supply systems to ensure clean drinking water

This multi-sectoral approach aims to create holistic development in Panchmahal and Dahod districts, addressing both immediate needs and long-term growth requirements of the tribal communities residing in these regions.

The substantial financial commitment reflects the state government's strategic priority to bridge development gaps in tribal areas while promoting sustainable agricultural practices through advanced irrigation technology.
