Trichy city was put on high alert on Tuesday after bomb threats were issued against the residences and offices of two prominent Tamil Nadu ministers. The threats targeted Municipal Administration Minister K N Nehru and School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi, creating temporary panic before being confirmed as hoaxes.
Swift Police Response to Email Threats
The Trichy City Police Commissioner's office received an alarming email in the morning containing specific bomb threats. The anonymous mail explicitly stated that explosives would detonate at both the residential and office premises of Ministers Nehru and Poyyamozhi. Police Commissioner N Kamini was immediately informed about the serious security situation.
Following standard protocol, the city police were immediately put on high alert. The authorities wasted no time in deploying specialized teams to investigate the credibility of the threats. The Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad was swiftly activated and dispatched to multiple locations across the city.
Comprehensive Security Sweeps Conducted
Heavily armed police teams, accompanied by the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad equipped with advanced metal detectors and trained sniffer dogs, conducted thorough searches at all threatened locations. The security operation covered Minister Nehru's residence in Thillai Nagar 5th Cross and his office in Sastri Nagar.
Simultaneously, similar security sweeps were conducted at Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi's Anna Nagar residence in Thennur and the DMK south district office located in Sathiram VN Nagar. After meticulous examinations of all premises, the bomb squads confirmed that the threats were false alarms.
College Also Targeted in Hoax Campaign
The threat campaign extended beyond political figures to include educational institutions. St Joseph's College near Chathiram Bus Stand also received a bomb threat, prompting immediate security action. Bomb experts conducted comprehensive searches throughout the college campus, examining office rooms, classrooms, and laboratories with extreme caution.
The college searches, like those at the ministers' properties, concluded without finding any explosive devices. All locations were declared safe after the exhaustive security operations, though police remained vigilant throughout the day. The incidents have raised concerns about the misuse of bomb threats to create public panic and disrupt normal activities.
Authorities have launched a full investigation to identify the source of the threatening email. The police are examining digital footprints and following other investigative leads to track down the individuals responsible for the hoax threats that put the entire city on edge.
