Former Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda launched a sharp attack on the ruling BJP government on Monday. He accused them of completely ruining the state's law and order situation. Hooda also claimed the government has pushed Haryana's economy into a deep crisis.
Organized Crime at Its Peak in Haryana
Addressing a press conference in Kurukshetra, Hooda did not mince words. He said organized crime is currently at its peak across the state. Criminals are acting without any fear, he alleged. They are even taking open responsibility for their crimes.
"More than 80 organized gangs are active in Haryana," Hooda stated. He claimed these gangs are involved in serious offenses. These include murders, robberies, dacoities, and kidnappings for ransom.
The Congress leader cited the Central Government's own Social Progress Index. According to that report, Haryana ranks as the most unsafe state in the entire country.
Economy in an Alarming State
Hooda further trained his guns on the state's economic management. He accused the BJP of being completely disconnected from ground reality. The economic condition of Haryana is truly alarming, he asserted.
He presented a stark comparison of the state's debt burden. From 1966 to 2014, Haryana's total debt stood at about Rs 60,000 crore. Under the current BJP government, that debt has now crossed a staggering Rs 5 lakh crore.
This poor fiscal health is reflected in national rankings. Haryana ranks 14th among 18 states in NITI Aayog's Fiscal Health Index. That is a very low position indicating serious financial stress.
Factory Closures and Job Losses
The former chief minister highlighted a worrying trend of industrial decline. Since 2018–19, approximately 1,446 factories in the state have either shut down permanently or shifted operations elsewhere.
This exodus has had a direct and severe impact on employment. Job creation has plummeted across Haryana. The state is now grappling with record levels of unemployment, Hooda claimed.
Government Limited to Event Management
Hooda was scathing in his overall assessment of the BJP government's performance. He said the present administration seems limited to just "event management and propaganda." It has no concrete achievements to show for its time in power, he alleged.
The press conference was part of a two-day Congress training camp in Kurukshetra. Several senior party leaders were present on the occasion.
State Congress president Rao Narendra Singh gave a detailed account of the program's agenda. Former minister and Thanesar MLA Ashok Arora attended the event. Shahabad MLA Ramkaran Kala and Pehowa MLA Mandeep Chatha were also present. Several other MLAs and senior leaders joined them.
