Former Haryana CM Hooda Launches Scathing Attack on BJP Government
Former Haryana chief minister and Leader of the Opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda delivered a sharp critique of the BJP government on Monday. He alleged that the administration has completely ruined Haryana's law and order situation. Hooda also claimed the government has pushed the state's economy into a deep crisis.
Government Limited to Event Management, Says Hooda
Addressing a press conference during the Congress training camp in Kurukshetra, Hooda stated the present government was limited to event management and propaganda. He asserted it had no concrete achievements to show on the ground. Hooda spoke for the second consecutive day at the camp.
He highlighted that organised crime was at its peak in Haryana. Criminals are committing crimes fearlessly, Hooda claimed. He added they even openly take responsibility for their actions. The former CM said more than 80 organised gangs are active in the state.
These gangs are involved in:
- Murders
- Robberies
- Dacoities
- Kidnappings for ransom
Citing the Central Government's Social Progress Index, Hooda noted Haryana has been ranked as the most unsafe state in the country.
Economic Condition Described as Alarming
Hooda further accused the BJP of being disconnected from reality. He stated the state's economic condition was truly alarming. Hooda provided figures to support his claim.
He said Haryana's total debt stood at about Rs 60,000 crore from 1966 to 2014. That debt has now crossed Rs 5 lakh crore. As a result, Haryana ranks 14th among 18 states in NITI Aayog's Fiscal Health Index.
The former chief minister added a worrying trend about industry. Since 2018–19, around 1,446 factories in the state have either shut down or shifted elsewhere. This has led to a severe decline in job creation. Hooda pointed to record levels of unemployment in Haryana.
Congress Leaders Gather for Training Camp
Several senior Congress leaders attended the press conference and training camp. State Congress president Rao Narendra Singh was present. Former minister and Thanesar MLA Ashok Arora also attended.
Other notable attendees included:
- Shahabad MLA Ramkaran Kala
- Pehowa MLA Mandeep Chatha
- Several other MLAs
- Senior party leaders
Rao Narendra Singh gave a detailed account of the programme's proceedings.
Hooda Reflects on Congress History and Ideals
Earlier, Hooda addressed party functionaries at the camp. He spoke about the history, ideology, and policies of the Congress party. Hooda congratulated newly elected district presidents. He expressed hope they would discharge their responsibilities with dedication, impartiality, and fearlessness.
Describing the post of district president as one of prestige and honour, Hooda noted several eminent leaders had held the position. He named Sir Chhotu Ram, Chaudhary Bansi Lal, and Banarsi Das Gupta. Hooda urged party leaders to take pride in the Congress's legacy.
He stated the party was not just an organisation but a culture and an ideal. Quoting Dr B.R. Ambedkar, Hooda said a society that forgets its great leaders and history cannot create a new future.
Congress's Role in Nation and State Building
Hooda reflected on the national movement. He said under Mahatma Gandhi's leadership, national leaders united India's diversity into a single thread. This gave the country one flag, one Constitution, and a democratic system. That system ensured dignity, equality, freedom, and fraternity for all citizens.
Even after Independence, Congress leaders fought illiteracy, poverty, and backwardness. Hooda added they strengthened democratic values under Jawaharlal Nehru's leadership.
Referring specifically to Haryana, Hooda said successive Congress governments played a key role. From Bhagwat Dayal Sharma to Chaudhary Bansi Lal and Chaudhary Bhajan Lal, they helped make Haryana a leading state.
Hooda claimed during his two terms as Chief Minister, Haryana emerged as the number one state on several development indicators. These included:
- Per capita income
- Investment
- Job creation
- Law and order
- Respect for farmers and sportspersons
The former CM's remarks set a strong political tone as the Congress continues its training and outreach efforts in the state.
