In Kozhikode, the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) has issued a firm rebuttal to recent comments made by SNDP Yogam general secretary Vellappally Natesan. The party outright rejected his allegations, labeling them as nothing more than 'mere rants' that do not deserve a serious or considered response.
IUML Leader Points to CPM Influence
Speaking to reporters in Malappuram, senior IUML leader PMA Salam did not mince words. He strongly implied that the Communist Party of India (Marxist), or CPM, is the real force behind Natesan's statements. Salam made a pointed reference, suggesting Natesan is being manipulated after receiving certain honors and privileges.
"He is being made to say such things after being honoured with a ponnada and taken around in cars," Salam stated. This remark was widely seen as a veiled criticism aimed at Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and his administration.
Refusal to Be Provoked
When questioned on whether Natesan's words were an attempt to provoke the IUML, Salam expressed confidence in the public's discernment. He believes the people of Kerala clearly understand the motives of both the speaker and those who might be encouraging him.
"If the intention is to provoke us into reacting and create an atmosphere of conflict, IUML will not fall into that trap," Salam declared emphatically. He reiterated that the party is dismissing the remarks with the contempt they warrant, seeing no need for a further, escalated response.
Salam pointed to the recent election results as evidence. He noted that the electorate has already delivered its verdict on such divisive rhetoric, making additional commentary from the IUML unnecessary.
Concern for Social Harmony
The IUML leader also voiced a broader concern. He warned that statements of this nature, regardless of their source, pose a significant threat to Kerala's cherished social fabric and communal harmony.
Clarifying Stance on SNDP-NSS Unity
Addressing the specific allegation that IUML sabotaged unity efforts between the SNDP Yogam and the Nair Service Society (NSS), Salam was categorical. He stated that the IUML maintains a policy of non-interference in the internal affairs of community-based organizations.
"IUML does not interfere in matters concerning unity or differences between community organizations," he clarified. To reinforce this point, he added that the NSS itself has not leveled any accusations against the IUML in this matter.
On Upcoming Elections and Party Strategy
Responding to questions about his own political future, Salam deferred to the party's collective decision-making process. He confirmed that the IUML will decide whether he contests in the upcoming elections.
Looking ahead, he highlighted the party's commitment to inclusive representation. Salam assured that women and youth will have a prominent place in the IUML's candidate list for the forthcoming polls.
