From SOI to SOPU: A Strategic Political Evolution
Jawandha's political career began to take shape at DAV College, Sector 10, where he rose through the ranks with the Students Organisation of India (SOI). His prominence was solidified in 2022 when he was announced as 'president' during the Panjab University Campus Students Council (PUCSC) polls at the Shiromani Akali Dal headquarters, an event graced by prominent leaders Sukhbir Badal and Bikram Singh Majithia. However, ahead of the 2024 elections, as a UIAMS student, Jawandha made a significant move by joining the Students Organisation of Panjab University (SOPU) in July. He contested for the general secretary position as part of an alliance but did not secure victory.

The 2024 elections later gained notoriety for reasons beyond Jawandha's candidacy. During this period, Ravi Rajgarh, described by police as an alleged associate of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, appeared at the PU Student Centre to publicly introduce candidates, including Jawandha and presidential candidate Anurag Dalal. Rajgarh's subsequent arrest in Ludhiana in July on multiple criminal charges prompted police to question both Dalal and Jawandha. Both individuals claimed no personal acquaintance with Rajgarh, suggesting he might have arrived with other outsiders who frequent the campus during election times.
Jawandha remained politically active post-2024, backing Abhishek Dagar for general secretary in the 2025 PUCSC elections, a move that proved successful as Dagar won. Around this time, internal divisions within SOPU led Jawandha's faction to split from the group led by Balraj Sidhu, highlighting ongoing factional rifts within the organization.

His presence was also noted during Abhishek Dagar's hunger strike against the no-protest affidavit issue at Panjab University. Jawandha was seen when the strike concluded after the administration rolled back the requirement. Sources indicated growing differences within the group around this time, and he was allegedly involved in another altercation with an individual close to Dagar.
