Jaipur Municipal Corporation Demolishes Illegal Portion of Wanted Criminal's House
The Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) on Friday carried out a demolition action against an allegedly illegally constructed portion of a house belonging to wanted criminal Ravi Mehra. The operation was conducted under police protection at the property located in Kanwar Nagar, falling under the JMC's Amber–Hawa Mahal zone.
Demolition Details and Police Involvement
During the action, approximately 7 feet of extended construction was razed. JMC officials stated that a notice had been served to Mehra's father four days prior, asking him to submit valid documents related to the extended portion of the house. With no such paperwork forthcoming, the JMC proceeded with the demolition in the presence of personnel from the Subhas Chowl police station.
Background on Criminal Case and Investigation
Karan Sharma, DCP (North), provided context, noting that history-sheeter Ravi Mehra opened fire in the Brahmpuri area around six days ago and has been absconding ever since. He is also wanted in another case registered at the Sodala police station. Sharma added, "In the ensuing investigation, it was found that nearly seven feet of his house constituted illegal encroachment, following which the JMC issued a notice and subsequently carried out the demolition."
Official Statement on Procedure and Compliance
JMC deputy commissioner for the Amer–Hawa Mahal zone, Seema Chaudhary, emphasized that the corporation acted strictly according to procedure. She said, "We received a written request from the police stating that the front portion of Ravi Mehra's house was illegally constructed. A notice was duly issued to the family four days ago, but no valid documents were submitted. As a result, the illegal structure was demolished."
The demolition highlights the JMC's ongoing efforts to enforce building regulations and combat illegal constructions in Jaipur, particularly in cases linked to criminal activities. This action serves as a reminder of the legal consequences for unauthorized property extensions, even when the owner is evading law enforcement.
