Kannur District Magistrate Convenes All-Party Peace Meeting After Post-Poll Violence
In response to escalating post-election violence in the Payyannur assembly constituency, Additional District Magistrate in-charge K Balagopal called for an urgent all-party peace meeting on Saturday. The gathering, held at the Payyannur taluk conference hall, brought together key stakeholders including police officers, revenue officials, and representatives from various political parties to address the concerning situation.
Decisions Taken to Curb Further Incidents
During the meeting, it was unanimously decided to implement strict measures to prevent any further untoward incidents. Police will now register cases for all reported poll-related violence incidents in the area, ensuring accountability and deterrence. Additionally, participants agreed that statements or remarks defaming political leaders or candidates should be strictly avoided by all parties to maintain decorum and reduce tensions.
Enhanced Security and Surveillance Measures
To foster a peaceful atmosphere, the meeting outlined several security enhancements. Police patrolling will be significantly increased across the constituency, with a particular focus on night patrols to deter criminal activities during vulnerable hours. For more effective monitoring, vehicles equipped with cameras will be deployed for patrolling duties. Furthermore, CCTV cameras will be installed in sensitive areas to enable round-the-clock surveillance and provide real-time insights into any potential disturbances.
The collaborative effort underscores a proactive approach by local authorities and political representatives to restore calm and ensure public safety following the electoral unrest. By combining legal action with technological surveillance, the measures aim to create a secure environment and prevent recurrence of violence in the region.
