Kanpur LPG Crisis: Long Queues, Days-Long Waits for Cylinders

Kanpur Grapples with Acute LPG Cylinder Shortage, Lengthy Queues Persist

Long queues continued to snake outside multiple gas agencies in Kanpur on Monday, highlighting a severe shortage of LPG cylinders and significant delays in distribution across the city. While cylinders were being distributed at select locations, many individuals in the queues expressed frustration, stating they had been waiting for several days without success.

Chaotic Scenes at Bhagwat Gas Agency Near JK Temple

At Bhagwat Gas Agency located near the JK temple, customers formed lines on both sides of the road as police personnel worked to manage the growing crowd. In the afternoon, a cylinder truck finally arrived, allowing gas distribution to commence. People in the queue revealed they had been waiting since morning, hoping for some relief from the ongoing crisis.

Munawwar, a local resident who came to collect a cylinder, shared his ordeal: "I have been coming here for four consecutive days to get a cylinder. The worst part is that customers have to stand in one line for the slip, another for the cylinder... and if they run out, we are told to come back tomorrow."

Another resident, Anand, recounted his experience: "I was called on Saturday to collect the cylinder, and Monday marks the third day I have stood in line, yet I have not received anything."

Closed Agencies and Frustrated Residents in Swarup Nagar

Outside Kanpur Gas Agency in the Swarup Nagar area, a large crowd gathered while the shutter remained firmly closed. Agency employees stood by the roadside and explained that the cylinder truck had not arrived, which was the reason for the office closure.

Shivam, a resident, expressed his anger: "I have been running around for LPG for four days. I booked online and received a confirmation message on Friday, but there was no delivery. Now, I get a message saying 'Gas delivered,' but there is no cylinder! It states I can book next on April 10. Where is my cylinder?"

Kafeel, who also came to collect a cylinder, said he had been attempting to secure one for four days without any luck.

Government Steps Up Monitoring Amid Crisis

In response to the escalating situation, the state government has intensified monitoring of LPG distributors to ensure that consumers receive cylinders according to their bookings. Authorities are conducting regular reviews of stock positions and maintaining a close watch on the availability of refills to address the distribution bottlenecks.

The persistent shortages and delays have left many Kanpur residents struggling to meet their daily cooking needs, underscoring the urgent need for effective solutions to stabilize LPG supply in the region.
