Karnataka Chief Minister-designate D K Shivakumar has made a heartfelt appeal to his supporters and party workers to refrain from showering him with flowers and garlands during celebrations following his elevation to the top post. Citing a severe allergy to garlands, the senior Congress leader urged restraint, saying, 'Please, don't put flowers on me.'
Shivakumar's plea to supporters
Acknowledging the enthusiasm among party workers after his selection as the next Chief Minister of Karnataka, Shivakumar addressed reporters in Bengaluru on Saturday. He explained that while he deeply appreciates the love and support, his medical condition makes it difficult for him to be around flowers. 'I have an allergy to garlands. It causes me discomfort and health issues. I request everyone to cooperate and avoid putting flowers on me,' he said.
Restricted celebrations planned
The CM-designate also informed that the celebration arrangements would be kept minimal and controlled. He urged party workers to channel their energy into constructive work rather than elaborate public festivities. 'I understand your happiness, but let us celebrate in a simple and restrained manner. Your cooperation will mean a lot to me,' Shivakumar added.
Shivakumar, a prominent Congress leader from Karnataka, was officially announced as the Chief Minister-designate after the party's recent victory in the state assembly elections. His elevation has been widely welcomed by party cadres, who have been eagerly preparing for grand celebrations. However, Shivakumar's personal appeal is expected to tone down the public display of affection.
The appeal also extends to the general public, with the leader requesting them to avoid bringing flower bouquets or garlands to any events he attends in the coming days. Security personnel have been instructed to politely decline such offerings on his behalf.
This is not the first time a political leader has made such a request. Many public figures have cited allergies or environmental concerns to discourage the use of flowers in public events. Shivakumar's plea highlights the need for awareness about personal health issues and the importance of respecting individual preferences.
As Karnataka gears up for a new government under his leadership, Shivakumar's focus remains on governance and development. He has urged his supporters to prioritize the state's progress over grand celebrations. 'Let us work together for Karnataka's future. That would be the best celebration,' he concluded.
