In a significant demonstration of civic discontent, corporators and activists from the Indian National Congress and Shiv Sena (UBT) organized a symbolic chain hunger strike outside the Kolhapur Municipal Corporation (KMC) building on Thursday. The protest was aimed at highlighting the prolonged delay in approving essential service regulations, which are critical for finalizing the organizational structure of the municipal body.

Leader of Opposition Rajesh Latkar voiced strong concerns regarding the repercussions of this administrative stagnation. "The recruitment process for numerous vacant positions has been completely stalled due to the pending service regulations," Latkar stated. He emphasized that this bureaucratic impasse is directly impacting citizens, who are bearing the brunt of resulting inconveniences in municipal services.
Latkar further pointed out additional delays, noting that while elections for the City Street Vendors Committee have already been conducted, the official gazette notification to formalize its members has not been issued. "Both these crucial proposals have been gathering dust at the Urban Development Department for the past two years," he added, underscoring the extent of the administrative backlog.

Mayor Ruparani Nikam addressed the protestors, relaying assurances from Minister Chandrakant Patil. According to Nikam, Patil has committed to resolving the issue within a month, citing the ongoing legislative session as a factor in the delay. This assurance provided a temporary respite in the agitation.

Following the minister's assurance, the Congress party decided to call off the hunger strike. However, they have made it clear that this is not the end of their efforts.
