In a scathing attack on the ruling party, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president KT Rama Rao on Thursday accused the Congress government in Telangana of achieving nothing but evasion, demolitions, and destruction in its two years in power. He made these remarks while addressing a gathering at Telangana Bhavan, where several leaders from the Kollapur assembly constituency joined the BRS.
Unfulfilled Promises and Bulldozed Homes
KTR, as he is popularly known, stated that the Congress came to power on the back of 420 promises and six guarantees, but has failed to deliver on any of them. He sharply criticized the administration for its actions against the underprivileged, alleging that houses of the poor were bulldozed by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) under the guise of removing encroachments.
Furthermore, he raised serious allegations of environmental and infrastructural damage, claiming that irrigation structures and check dams were damaged by the sand mafia using detonators. "Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has failed to protect the interests of Telangana in water issues," KTR asserted, highlighting a key area of governance failure.
Countering Criticism and Political Challenges
Addressing Congress leaders who had criticized his recent comments about Rahul Gandhi, KTR turned the tables on them. He reminded them that it was Revanth Reddy himself who had repeatedly used abusive language against the Gandhi family in the past. He challenged the Congress to first question their own Chief Minister before pointing fingers at the opposition.
Shifting focus to upcoming political battles, KTR addressed reports of the Congress government planning to hold the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) election soon. He called upon the BRS cadre to unite and prepare for the electoral fight to secure victory. He bolstered his appeal by citing the party's past record, stating that under the previous BRS government, Hyderabad witnessed development projects worth nearly Rs 9,700 crore, a legacy he urged workers to take to every division and voter.
Allegations of Betrayal and Show of Strength
KTR also took a dig at Serilingampally MLA Arekapudi Gandhi, accusing him of betraying the BRS and joining Revanth Reddy solely to protect his personal land interests. Despite this defection, KTR claimed that public meetings in the Serilingampally constituency continue to receive massive support due to the enduring affection people hold for former Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) and the BRS.
The event also served as a platform to showcase the party's growing strength. Senior leader Gutta Narendra Yadav, along with hundreds of his followers and supporters, formally joined the BRS earlier in the day, marking a significant addition to the party's ranks.
