Lucknow Grapples with Severe LPG Supply Crisis as Delivery Delays Extend to Eight Days
The ongoing liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) supply crunch in Lucknow has escalated into a full-blown crisis, with delivery timelines ballooning from the standard 24 hours to an alarming five to eight days. This significant disruption is severely impacting cooking schedules across numerous households in the city, creating widespread inconvenience and forcing families to adopt desperate measures.
Widespread Disruption Across Key Localities
Residents from various neighborhoods, including Sadar Bazaar, Gomti Nagar, Nirala Nagar, Burlington, Phoolbagh in Jankipuram, and Purana Kila, have reported that the extended waiting period has thrown their daily cooking routines into chaos. The situation is particularly critical for families dependent on a single cylinder, leaving them vulnerable and scrambling for alternatives.
A comprehensive survey conducted across more than a dozen localities in Lucknow reveals that many citizens are being compelled to rely on induction stoves, order outside food, or seek assistance from neighbors to meet their basic cooking needs.
Personal Stories Highlight the Human Impact
SM Faisal from Khadra booked a refill last week but has yet to receive it. "For three days, we borrowed a spare cylinder from a neighbor. However, when his own cylinder ran out, he had to take it back. Ultimately, we were forced to construct a clay oven for cooking. We are a joint family of twelve members, and cooking on an induction stove is excessively time-consuming," he explained.
Noori from Sadar Bazaar emphasized that the delay has made managing daily cooking during the holy month of Ramzan exceptionally difficult. The uncertainty is also generating considerable anxiety among families with limited options. Radhika from Purana Kila shared her concern: "My refill has not arrived even days after booking. I have to travel to Varanasi, and I'm deeply worried about how my children will manage without a functioning cylinder."
Frustration Mounts Despite Repeated Efforts
Numerous residents reported making repeated attempts to secure cylinders through Interactive Voice Response Systems (IVRS) and direct visits to agency offices, but with minimal success. Guriya, part of a joint family, expressed her frustration: "We stood in long queues and tried booking multiple times, but the cylinder still hasn't arrived."
Working professionals and tenants are also feeling the strain acutely. Pooja Mishra from Gomti Nagar stated: "Without a backup cylinder available, I had no choice but to order food from outside." Others mentioned they are reducing the number of cooked meals to conserve the limited fuel they have.
Economic and Social Repercussions Emerge
The shortage is having tangible economic effects. Farheen from Burlington, who prepares iftaar meals for hostel students, revealed: "Without a steady gas supply, I had to stop cooking entirely. This is directly affecting my income and livelihood."
In areas like Phoolbagh and Nirala Nagar, residents confirmed delays persisting even after multiple follow-ups. Some were instructed to complete Know Your Customer (KYC) formalities or simply wait for their turn, adding to the bureaucratic hurdles.
Altered Food Habits and Increased Pressure
The LPG crisis has fundamentally changed food habits in many Lucknow households. Reports indicate that some families are now cooking only once a day, while others are skipping meals altogether or switching to packaged and processed foods as a temporary solution.
With demand traditionally rising during Ramzan and the ongoing festive period, the severe supply lag has compounded the pressure on households, exacerbating the daily challenges faced by residents. The collective impact underscores a critical infrastructure issue requiring immediate attention to restore normalcy.
