The BJP's withdrawal from the mayoral race has effectively cleared the path for the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena to secure both the Mayor and Deputy Mayor positions in what is widely regarded as India's wealthiest municipal body. This development follows earlier tensions between the two parties during the February 21 municipal elections, when the Sena had severed ties with the BJP at the civic level. Despite these local disagreements, the Shiv Sena continues to remain a coalition partner in both the Devendra Fadnavis-led state government and the central government.

According to the Economic Survey for 2025-26 tabled in the legislature, Maharashtra's economic growth rate is projected to increase from 7.3% in 2024-25 to 7.9% in the current fiscal year. This projected growth rate exceeds the national growth estimate of 7.4%, positioning Maharashtra as a key economic driver for the country.
The survey indicates that while the agricultural sector experienced some slowdown due to unseasonal rains and flooding, this has been effectively offset by stronger performances in the industrial and services sectors. These sectors carry greater weight in the calculation of overall economic growth, contributing significantly to the state's positive economic trajectory.
Legislative Agenda: Comprehensive Financial and Policy Discussions
The 23-day session features a packed legislative agenda that includes multiple important financial exercises. Supplementary demands are scheduled for discussion on March 15, while the Vote on Account will be presented on March 22. Beginning March 24, legislators will engage in department-wise budgetary demand discussions, allowing for detailed debates on allocations across various sectors of governance.
