SAD Leader Majithia Demands CBI Probe and Murder Charges Against Punjab CM Over Youth's Death
In a significant political development, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia visited the residence of 19-year-old Ranjit Singh in Adhian village, Gurdaspur, on Thursday, meeting the grieving family to express solidarity. Following the emotional encounter, Majithia declared that the SAD stands firmly with the family and will relentlessly fight for justice in this troubling case.
Allegations of Targeted Police Action Against Sikh Youth
Majithia leveled serious accusations, alleging that young Sikh men are being systematically targeted under what he described as a Delhi-run government in Punjab. He claimed that youths from border areas are increasingly becoming victims of aggressive police action, pointing to a disturbing pattern that requires immediate scrutiny.
Demanding accountability, Majithia called for the registration of a murder case under Section 302 against Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, who also serves as the Home Minister, and the ad hoc Director General of Police. This bold demand underscores the escalating tensions between the opposition SAD and the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab.
Call for CBI Inquiry into Encounter Killings
Beyond the immediate case, Majithia demanded a comprehensive Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into all encounter killings that have occurred during the tenure of the AAP-led Punjab government. He drew parallels to the alleged fake encounters of the 1990s, where police versions frequently cited escape attempts and retaliatory firing.
"Several police personnel involved in those past encounters were later prosecuted and punished," Majithia stated, emphasizing that such historical incidents serve as a stark reminder that accountability eventually follows. He stressed that the present case must be independently investigated to establish the truth and ensure justice prevails.
Solidarity Visit to Slain ASI's Family
In a gesture of broader solidarity, Majithia also visited the residence of ASI Gurnam Singh, who was killed at the Adhiyan police post. He paid heartfelt tributes to the fallen officer and expressed deep condolences to the bereaved family, highlighting the human cost of the ongoing law and order challenges in the region.
This dual visit to families affected by violence underscores the political and social ramifications of security issues in Punjab, with Majithia positioning the SAD as a vocal advocate for justice and transparency in governance.
