In a significant review of infrastructure projects in Prayagraj, Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya conducted an on-site inspection of the much-anticipated six-lane bridge over the Ganga river. The bridge, which will connect Malak Harhar and Beli Chowk, is seen as a crucial development for the city's connectivity.
Deputy CM Expresses Displeasure Over Construction Pace
During his visit on Tuesday, Keshav Prasad Maurya did not mince words regarding the progress of the ambitious project. He expressed clear dissatisfaction with the slow speed of construction observed at the site. The deputy chief minister issued direct instructions to the executing agency and the officials from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways present, urging them to significantly accelerate the pace of work.
Officials from the construction company briefed Maurya on the current timeline, informing him that the bridge is expected to be completed by May 2026. Despite this projected deadline, Maurya emphasized that the current rate of progress was unacceptable and needed immediate improvement to meet the target.
Focus on Quality and Continuous Monitoring
While pushing for faster construction, the deputy chief minister also underscored the non-negotiable aspect of quality. He instructed the executing agency to ensure that all quality standards are strictly maintained throughout the building process. Maurya directed that a system for continuous monitoring of the work's progress be put in place to avoid future delays and ensure adherence to specifications.
He highlighted that infrastructure of this scale must be built to last, serving the people of Prayagraj for decades to come without compromising on safety or durability.
Broader Vision for Prayagraj's Infrastructure
Maurya connected the Ganga bridge project to a larger blueprint for the city's development. He stated that the completion of the inner ring road, of which this bridge is a part, will be a game-changer. It is expected to accelerate overall development in Prayagraj and dramatically improve the flow of traffic, reducing congestion in the city center.
The deputy CM provided a broader context, revealing that multiple infrastructure projects are currently underway in the region. Apart from this bridge, several other bridges are being constructed over the Ganga and Yamuna rivers. Additionally, the government is working on building numerous road overbridges (ROBs) and flyovers, coupled with extensive road-widening initiatives across the city.
This comprehensive approach aims to modernize Prayagraj's transportation network, catering to its growing population and enhancing connectivity for both residents and pilgrims visiting the holy city.
