Shillong: The Union finance ministry has approved an additional Rs 2,500 crore for Meghalaya under an externally aided project. Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for the approval, stating that the funds will be utilized for infrastructure development across the state.
Foundation Stones Laid for Three Major Road Projects
On Thursday, the Chief Minister laid the foundation stones for three major road infrastructure projects at Latyrke Playground in East Jaiñtia Hills District. These projects involve a total investment of approximately Rs 412 crore.
Project Details
- Upgradation of the Dkhiah–Sutnga–Saipung–Pala upto Semmasi Road at a cost of Rs 355 crore.
- Strengthening of the Dkhiah–Sutnga–Saipung–Moulsei–Haflong Road at a cost of Rs 10.3 crore.
- Improvement of the Sutnga–Khaddum Road at a cost of Rs 46.75 crore, which will also provide better access to the scenic Chympe Waterfalls.
“These projects will significantly improve connectivity across the region,” the CM said. “Good roads are not just about connectivity. They open doors to economic opportunities, improve access to education and healthcare, boost tourism, and bring communities closer together. We remain committed to building stronger infrastructure that transforms lives and accelerates development across Meghalaya,” he added.
