Koppal Minister Rejects Allegations of Fund Withdrawal for Tungabhadra Project
District-in-charge minister Shivaraj Tangadagi has firmly denied claims that the government had withdrawn its share of funds allocated for the crucial Tungabhadra crest gate repair works. The minister made this statement while addressing reporters after unfurling the national flag in Koppal on Monday.
Financial Approval and Fund Release Confirmed
Tangadagi clarified that the finance department had already approved the release of funds for the installation of the crest gates. He emphasized that this marks a significant milestone, stating, "For the first time in the history of the Tungabhadra Board, funds have been released through the combined share of three states." The minister expressed frustration over misinformation being spread without proper knowledge of the facts.
Project Timeline and Payment Details
The minister provided specific details about the project's progress:
- The project received official approval on December 8, 2025
- Discussions were subsequently held with contractors and technical expert Kanhaiya Naidu
- An initial payment of Rs 11 crore has already been released to contractors
- An additional Rs 3.8 crore will be paid on Tuesday
- All remaining bills submitted by contractors will be cleared promptly
Current Status and Future Targets
Tangadagi outlined the ambitious targets for the crest gate installation project:
- The immediate goal is to complete installation of six crest gates
- Plans are in place to install a total of ten gates by the end of February
- Currently, 19 gates are ready for installation
- Work is underway on four additional gates
- Eight gates have been dismantled, with one more in the dismantling process
The minister explained that two dedicated teams, each comprising eight staff members, are actively working on the project to ensure timely completion.
Financial Arrangements and Project Nature
Addressing concerns about potential delays, Tangadagi acknowledged that contractors might experience some initial setbacks in the first month. However, he clarified that no separate government order is required for the work to proceed. The minister described this as a commitment-based project where financial arrangements have been made through book adjustment. He revealed that the government has already deposited Rs 10 crore into the treasury, ensuring that once the rains begin, water will start flowing into the reservoir without interruption.
Political Criticism and Allegations
In a sharp criticism of the opposition, Tangadagi accused the BJP of creating unnecessary confusion around the project. He alleged that technical expert Kanhaiya Naidu did not possess complete information, which contributed to the spread of misinformation. The minister went further to remark that "the BJP seemed more interested in protecting gambling rackets than understanding facts related to the project."
The minister's statements come at a crucial time for the Tungabhadra Board project, which represents significant infrastructure development for the region. The detailed clarification aims to address public concerns and ensure transparency in the execution of this important water management initiative.
