Visakhapatnam: Rajam police have solved the murder of a 34-year-old woman by arresting her teenage son and his friend, both minors. The victim, M Spandana, was found dead under suspicious circumstances in early May at Dolapeta in Rajam, Vizianagaram district. Her 16-year-old son had gone missing around the same time.
Background of the Incident
Spandana's husband, Rajesh, works at a private educational institution in Rajam. On May 4, Spandana had visited her sister's home in Rajam and invited her family to a local deity festival at her husband's hometown, Metavalasa, under Bobbili mandal. After returning home, she was found dead in a lake later that day.
On the day of the incident, the victim's son and another person from Marutinagar went missing, raising suspicion. Following an intensive investigation, police traced the duo using CCTV footage and technical evidence, arresting them in Tirupati.
Motive Behind the Crime
Police revealed that the teenager was allegedly upset over the strict discipline imposed by his mother. She had become more restrictive after discovering that her son had written a love letter to a girl at his school. During this period, the boy befriended an intermediate student he met at a cricket ground. The two frequently discussed personal and family issues. According to police, the class 10 student expressed his intention to kill his mother, and the other youth encouraged him, suggesting they run away together.
Execution of the Murder
Police said the accused planned the murder and hid inside the house when no one else was present. As soon as the woman entered the room, they allegedly attacked and strangled her. Believing she was still alive after noticing body movements, they later stabbed her with knives found in the house.
Aftermath and Recovery
After the murder, the duo allegedly stole gold ornaments weighing about five tolas, cash, and a mobile phone before fleeing. The body was reportedly dumped near a pond behind the house. Police recovered the stolen gold ornaments from the accused.
The investigation is ongoing, and the accused minors are in custody.
