NCP MLA Saroj Ahire Urges Action on Nashik-Pune Highway Traffic Crisis at Sinnar Phata
Saroj Ahire, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MLA representing the Deolali assembly constituency, has taken a proactive stance to resolve the severe and persistent traffic congestion plaguing Sinnar Phata on the crucial Nashik-Pune highway. Earlier this week, Ahire convened a meeting with senior district administration officials to discuss urgent measures aimed at alleviating the gridlock that has frustrated commuters for years.
Traffic Surge and Infrastructure Challenges
Over the past few years, traffic volume on the Nashik-Pune highway has escalated dramatically, a trend largely attributed to the opening of the Mumbai-Nagpur Samruddhi Expressway. This development has redirected a substantial influx of private and commercial vehicles from Nashik and its surrounding regions onto the highway via Nashik Road. These vehicles are primarily headed toward key destinations such as Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Ahilyanagar, Shirdi, Beed, Parbhani, and Nagpur, intensifying congestion at critical junctions like Sinnar Phata.
Despite previous efforts to widen the stretch near Sinnar Phata a few years ago, commuters report that traffic snarls remain a regular and disruptive occurrence. Many have highlighted specific infrastructure shortcomings exacerbating the problem. Notably, the one-kilometer-long flyover between Datta Mandir and Sinnar Phata features only two lanes on one side. This design flaw means that whenever a vehicle breaks down on the flyover, traffic movement is effectively paralyzed, causing extensive delays.
Additional Factors Contributing to Congestion
Local residents have pointed out that the continuous flow of trucks and other vehicles from the Eklahara side of the junction further compounds the disruption. This steady stream of heavy traffic merges with the already congested highway, creating bottlenecks that hinder smooth transit. The combination of increased vehicle numbers, inadequate lane capacity, and frequent breakdowns has transformed Sinnar Phata into a notorious choke point, impacting daily commutes and commercial logistics.
MLA Ahire's Commitment to Resolution
In response to these ongoing issues, MLA Saroj Ahire has pledged a comprehensive approach to finding solutions. "Every effort will be made to address the issues at Sinnar Phata," Ahire stated. "While one meeting has already been held with district administration officials, more meetings are planned with the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC), National Highway authorities, and other relevant departments." This multi-stakeholder strategy underscores the need for coordinated action among various governmental bodies to implement effective traffic management and infrastructure improvements.
Ahire's initiative reflects a broader commitment to enhancing regional connectivity and addressing the logistical challenges posed by rapid urbanization and increased highway usage. By engaging with key authorities, the MLA aims to develop sustainable solutions that could include lane expansions, better breakdown management protocols, and optimized traffic flow from adjoining areas like Eklahara.
