Parents of Slain Rapper Sidhu Moosewala Stage Sit-In Protest Over Police Inaction
In a poignant display of frustration and grief, the parents of the late Punjabi rapper Sidhu Moosewala staged a sit-in protest outside the office of the Mansa Senior Superintendent of Police on Wednesday. Balkaur Singh and Charan Kaur, holding a portrait of their son, expressed their anguish over the police's failure to act on a complaint filed nearly six months ago against music producer Bunty Bains regarding financial disputes and unauthorized use of unreleased tracks.
Background of the Complaint and Allegations
The protest stems from a complaint lodged by Balkaur Singh in August 2025, accusing Bunty Bains of exploiting his son's legacy. According to Singh, Bains released tracks featuring Moosewala's vocals without proper consent or rights, leading to unauthorized profits and financial strain on the family. Balkaur Singh stated, "I filed the complaint with Mansa Police, but nothing has been done. If the police believe the complaint is false, they should return it." He emphasized that this inaction adds to their pain after losing their only son to gang violence on May 29, 2022.
Police Response and Political Accusations
During the protest, Bathinda Range DIG Harjit Singh, who was visiting Mansa, called the couple for talks, indicating a potential intervention. However, Balkaur Singh also leveled serious accusations against Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, claiming that while the CM promotes Operation Prahaar against gangsters, appropriate action has not been taken in their case. He alleged that people close to the CM are attempting to weaken their legal battle, further complicating their pursuit of justice.
Bunty Bains' Denial and Family's Struggle
In response to the allegations, Bunty Bains has previously denied any wrongdoing, stating that he had no financial dealings with the Moosewala family and only provided services to them. Despite this, the family remains steadfast in their claims, highlighting the emotional and financial toll of what they perceive as exploitation of their son's work. The protest underscores the ongoing challenges faced by the Moosewala family as they navigate legal and personal battles in the aftermath of their tragic loss.
