MP Power Dues Drive Recovers Rs 647 Crore, Waives Rs 290 Crore

Madhya Pradesh's Power Dues Settlement Drive Achieves Significant Recovery

The state's ambitious power dues settlement initiative, known as the 'Samadhan Yojana 2025-26', has yielded impressive results, with authorities recovering over Rs 647 crore in principal amounts while waiving surcharges worth Rs 290 crore. In a move to further boost participation, the second phase of this scheme has been extended until March 31, 2026, providing additional time for defaulting consumers to clear their outstanding electricity bills.

Strong Consumer Response and Extended Benefits

Officials from the Madhya Pradesh Madhya Kshetra Vidyut Vitaran Company reported that the scheme, which was launched on November 3 last year, has garnered a robust response from consumers with pending dues. To date, more than 6.78 lakh consumers have registered under the initiative and availed its benefits, highlighting its widespread acceptance and effectiveness in addressing long-standing payment issues.

Managing Director Rishi Garg emphasized the urgency for consumers with dues pending for over three months to capitalize on the extended second phase. He urged them to make a lump sum payment to avail up to 90 per cent surcharge waiver, a significant incentive designed to encourage prompt settlement.

Scheme Details and Concessional Rates

The Samadhan Yojana has proven particularly beneficial for consumers struggling with accumulated surcharges, offering them a structured opportunity to settle pending bills at concessional rates. Under the second phase, consumers can benefit from substantial rebates on surcharges based on their payment method:

  • For one-time lump sum payments, consumers can avail a rebate of 70 to 90 per cent on surcharges.
  • For those opting for instalment plans, the scheme provides relief of 50 to 60 per cent on surcharges.

This tiered approach aims to incentivize early and full settlement by offering higher rebates for lump sum payments, thereby reducing the financial burden on consumers and improving revenue collection for the power distribution company.

Registration Process and Consumer Categories

To facilitate easy access, consumers can register for the scheme through multiple channels, including the company's official portal, mobile application, common service centres, and MP Online kiosks. The registration process is designed to be user-friendly and accessible, ensuring that a wide range of consumers can participate without hassle.

The scheme categorizes consumers based on their usage patterns, with specific deposit requirements at the time of registration:

  1. Domestic and agricultural consumers are required to deposit 10 per cent of the outstanding amount to avail the scheme benefits.
  2. Non-domestic and industrial consumers need to pay 25 per cent of the outstanding amount to qualify for the concessions.

This structured approach ensures that the scheme is tailored to different consumer segments, promoting fairness and encouraging participation across the board.

Broader Impact and Future Outlook

The success of the Samadhan Yojana underscores the state's commitment to resolving power dues issues while supporting consumers in financial distress. By waiving significant surcharges and recovering substantial principal amounts, the initiative not only alleviates consumer debt but also strengthens the financial health of the power distribution infrastructure.

As the deadline extension provides a renewed opportunity for more consumers to come forward, authorities remain optimistic about further recoveries and enhanced compliance in the coming months. This proactive measure is expected to foster a culture of timely bill payments and contribute to the overall stability of the state's power sector.
