Eight Injured in Santacruz Incident

Heavy rains lashed Mumbai on July 3, 2026, causing significant disruptions across the city. In Santacruz, a wall collapse injured eight people, according to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). The injured were rushed to a nearby hospital, and their condition is reported to be stable.

Waterlogging Paralyzes City

Several low-lying areas in Mumbai experienced severe waterlogging, including Andheri, Vile Parle, and Bandra. Commuters faced immense difficulties as roads turned into rivers, leading to traffic jams. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a warning for more heavy rainfall in the next 24 hours.

Local Train Services Affected

The suburban railway network, the city's lifeline, was severely impacted. Waterlogging on tracks between Santacruz and Vile Parle on the Western line caused delays of up to 30 minutes. Central line services also faced disruptions due to waterlogging near Kurla. A railway official stated, "We are working to clear the tracks and restore normal services as soon as possible."

IMD Forecast and Precautionary Measures

The IMD has predicted isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall in Mumbai and its suburbs over the next two days. The BMC has deployed pumps to drain water from affected areas and advised residents to stay indoors unless necessary. Schools and colleges in some areas have been closed as a precaution.

Impact on Daily Life

The rains have disrupted daily life, with many offices allowing work from home. Flight operations at Mumbai airport were also affected, with some flights diverted to nearby airports. The city recorded 150 mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours, according to the IMD.
