Mumbai Woman's Fiery Confrontation with BJP Minister Over Road Blockade Goes Viral
A video capturing a woman's intense outburst against BJP water resources minister Girish Mahajan for obstructing a road during a party rally has ignited widespread debate and public sympathy. The incident, which occurred in Mumbai, led to the Worli police registering a case against the protest organizers for violating norms, as reported by PTI.
Public Inconvenience and Political Backlash
In the viral footage, the woman, dressed in yellow shorts and a cap, vehemently criticizes Mahajan for the traffic chaos caused by the BJP's protest on the Women's Reservation Bill. She exclaims, "Speak in a maidan. Do not stop traffic. Get out of here," as the minister attempts to calm her. Police personnel intervene, using stern language to restrain her, but she persists, highlighting the plight of hundreds stranded for over an hour. "I have to pick up my young child. When are you moving? We have been standing here for one hour. I have spoken to the police four times," she asserts.
Following the video's circulation, Mahajan acknowledged the public inconvenience but condemned the woman's behavior. "The morcha was peaceful. Of course, there was some inconvenience. I apologised to her three times for the delay and said the road would be cleared in ten minutes. We will be more careful in the future," he stated. However, he criticized her for using strong language and allegedly throwing a bottle at the protesters, warning it could have escalated into a law-and-order issue.
Widespread Support and Opposition Criticism
The woman's stance resonated with many citizens and opposition leaders, who questioned the BJP's permission to protest on a public road. Harsh Goenka, chairman of RPG Enterprises, praised her on X, saying, "An angry lady's image shouting at a political leader and his party for having stopped the road has gone viral. That one woman has said what millions of us feel. Stop blocking roads for your political agendas."
Opposition figures from SS UBT and Congress joined the fray. Sanjay Raut remarked, "O Ram! Salute to Woman Power. Modiji had said it right. Women will not forgive," while Priyanka Chaturvedi questioned why the BJP chose streets over designated grounds. State Congress chief Harshavardhan Sapkal interpreted the incident as a sign of public rejection of the BJP, and social activist Anjali Damania called for an FIR against BJP leaders for the blockade.
Mahajan defended past protests, noting, "There have been many andolans in the past when entire highways are jammed for 50 km. Many communities have protested," but the incident underscores growing frustration over political disruptions affecting daily life in Mumbai.
