Violence Erupts in Nandigram Over Health Camp Banners
Violence broke out in Nandigram on Wednesday morning. The clash involved Trinamool Congress workers and BJP supporters. It happened while TMC workers were putting up banners for a health camp.
Incident Details and Injuries
The incident occurred in the Ramchak area of Nandigram Block-II. Several TMC workers sustained injuries during the scuffle. Senior block core committee member Manoj Kumar Samanta was among those hurt.
Local sources report that TMC workers were installing promotional banners near Booth No 21. This location falls under the Boyal-II Gram Panchayat in East Ramchak. BJP workers confronted them at the site.
A verbal argument quickly turned physical. TMC leaders allege that their workers faced attacks with sticks and blunt objects. These assaults resulted in multiple injuries to party members.
Police Response and Investigation
A large police force from Nandigram Police Station rushed to the spot immediately. Officers worked to control the situation and prevent further escalation.
A senior police official provided an update on the investigation. "We received a formal complaint from the TMC leadership and are investigating the matter," the official stated. "The situation is currently under control."
Political Accusations and Counterclaims
Trinamool Congress leaders made strong accusations against the BJP. A local TMC leader explained their perspective on the violence.
"The BJP is scared of the development and service-oriented politics of Abhishek Banerjee," the TMC neta claimed. "They know the people of Nandigram are supporting 'Sebashray', so they are resorting to violence to stop our reach."
BJP representatives offered a completely different version of events. Pralay Pal serves as vice-president of BJP's Tamluk organisational district. He denied any party involvement in the incident.
"The BJP has no hand in this," Pal stated firmly. "The villagers are angry with the TMC's high-handedness and their spontaneous protest led to this scuffle. TMC is trying to play the victim card to hide their lack of ground support."
About the Health Camp Initiative
The violence centered around preparations for the 'Sebashray' health camp. This initiative promises to provide free medical services to local residents.
The camps are scheduled to operate until January 30. They represent a significant community service effort in the region. Political tensions have now overshadowed the healthcare initiative's launch.
