Shiv Sena Leader Neelam Gorhe Denies Allegations of Consulting Astrologer Amid Rape Case
In a press conference held in Pune on Monday, senior Shiv Sena member Neelam Gorhe firmly refuted allegations that she had approached astrologer Ashok Kharat to seek guidance on whether she would secure a ministerial berth. The accusations were made by social activist Trupti Desai, who claimed Gorhe had been a follower of Kharat for six to seven years and had met him at a hotel in Nashik before the Covid-19 pandemic.
Allegations by Trupti Desai
During an early press conference in Pune, Trupti Desai stated that Neelam Gorhe was among the followers of Ashok Kharat, who has been arrested by Nashik police on charges of raping a woman. Following his arrest, several FIRs were registered against Kharat, prompting the state government to form a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the case. Desai alleged, "Gorhe has been among Kharat's followers for the last six to seven years. She had even met the astrologer to find out if she would get a ministerial berth. Also, she had met Kharat at a hotel in Nashik before the Covid-19 pandemic." She added that the information came from one of the people who accompanied Gorhe to the meeting.
Neelam Gorhe's Response
In response, Neelam Gorhe told reporters in Pune that she does not follow any astrologer or godman. She asserted, "I have visited Nashik multiple times, but never met Kharat. Desai's allegations are completely baseless." Gorhe further suggested that the accusations are part of a political vendetta, stating, "Such allegations are part of a political vendetta by a few people who did not taste success in their political careers and are targeting me now. However, I will continue to focus on my work."
Background on the Case
The controversy arises amid a serious investigation into Ashok Kharat, who faces multiple charges including rape. The formation of an SIT by the state government underscores the gravity of the case, which has drawn public attention. Gorhe's denial comes as she maintains her stance against any involvement with Kharat, emphasizing her commitment to her political duties without distraction.
This incident highlights the intersection of politics and personal allegations in Maharashtra, with Gorhe positioning herself as a target of unfounded claims while the legal proceedings against Kharat continue to unfold.
