BJP President Nitin Nabin Kicks Off Assam Campaign with Confident Rally
In a spirited display of political momentum, National BJP president Nitin Nabin launched an intensive campaign blitz in Assam on Sunday. He addressed a massive and enthusiastic crowd at the Ledo Bazar High School playground in Margherita, located within the Tinsukia district. The rally was organized to bolster support for the sitting BJP MLA and party candidate, Bhaskar Sharma, as the state gears up for crucial elections.
Confidence in Historic Third Consecutive Victory
Nitin Nabin declared with unwavering confidence that the Bharatiya Janata Party is poised to secure a historic third consecutive victory in Assam. He attributed this anticipated success to the dynamic leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. "The people of Assam have witnessed genuine governance in action. Under the visionary leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Assam is advancing on an unstoppable path of progress. I am fully confident that the citizens of this great state will grant the BJP a historic hat-trick in these elections," Nabin proclaimed to the charged assembly.
Tributes to Assam's Developmental Journey
Nabin paid rich tributes to the developmental trajectory of Assam, crediting both former Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and the incumbent CM Himanta Biswa Sarma for transforming the state. He drew a compelling parallel between Assam's growth story and India's broader advancement under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's decade-long governance. "When Narendra Modi assumed the role of Prime Minister twelve years ago, he made two powerful commitments to the nation: Vikas and Vishwas, meaning development and trust. Today, every Indian can see these promises materialize in the roads we travel, the hospitals we utilize, and the pride we experience as citizens of a rising India. Here in Assam, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has carried forward that same spirit. The double-engine government is not merely a slogan; it is a tangible reality that has reached every panchayat and village," he emphasized.
Assam's Strategic Role in National Policy
Highlighting Assam's strategic importance, Nabin underscored the state's pivotal role in Prime Minister Modi's Act East Policy. "Prime Minister Modi has consistently believed that the future of India's growth lies in its eastern region. Assam is not just a state; it serves as the gateway to the entire South East Asia. By investing in Assam's infrastructure, connectivity, and peace, we are not only developing a state but also opening doors for the entire nation," he stated, reinforcing the region's geopolitical significance.
Contrasting Peace and Stability with Past Instability
The BJP president drew a sharp contrast between the present era and the past, pointing to the peace and stability that he asserted have accompanied BJP governance. "Let us not forget what Assam resembled before 2016. There was violence on the streets, agitation at every corner, and uncertainty in every household. The BJP came to power and brought with it the gift of peace and progress. Today, the youth of Assam and the Northeast no longer need to leave their homes and travel to distant states in search of education or livelihoods. Opportunities have arrived at their doorstep," he remarked, highlighting socio-economic improvements.
Criticism of Rival Parties and Defense of BJP Record
Nabin took pointed jabs at rival political parties on several fronts, including the contentious issue of infiltration. "There are parties in this country that have constructed their vote banks on the backs of infiltrators, parties that deliberately overlook when the demographic fabric of our border states is being torn apart. The BJP does not engage in such games. We will never compromise the security and identity of Assam's people for the sake of electoral gains," he asserted. He also defended his party's clean governance record, stating that not a single corruption charge stands against any BJP minister.
Economic Management and Pandemic Response
On economic management, Nabin credited the Modi government with shielding citizens from the impact of rising global fuel prices by reducing taxes on petroleum products. He also lauded the Centre's handling of the Covid-19 pandemic. "When the world was brought to its knees by Covid-19, it was Narendra Modi's government that stood like a rock for the people of India. We delivered vaccines to every corner of this vast nation at a speed that stunned the world. While other parties confined themselves indoors, BJP workers were out on the streets, serving the people, feeding the hungry, and standing by those in need," he recounted, praising the party's grassroots efforts.
Campaign Schedule and Earlier Engagements
Earlier in the day, after his arrival, Nabin joined party workers from Booth Numbers 135 and 137 at Mohanbari Tea Estate in Dibrugarh to listen to Prime Minister Modi's radio programme, Mann Ki Baat. Following the Margherita rally, Nabin was scheduled to address another public meeting at Jonai in Dhemaji district later in the day. He was also set to attend a meeting of BJP workers from Dhemaji and Lakhimpur districts at Gogamukh in Dhemaji, demonstrating a packed campaign itinerary across the region.
