Overnight heavy rainfall lashed Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) on Thursday, inundating low-lying areas, disrupting the morning commute, and bringing several parts of the city to a standstill.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert, forecasting moderate to heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning throughout the day.
According to the IMD, Tukmirpur in northeast Delhi recorded the highest rainfall in the capital at 160 mm in the 24 hours ending at 8:30 am on Thursday.

Waterlogging and Traffic Disruption
The downpour resulted in waterlogging in several areas, including around New Delhi Railway Station and Munirka, slowing traffic movement and affecting commuters during the morning peak hours.
Neighbouring NCR districts also witnessed intense rainfall. Kamla Nehru Nagar in Ghaziabad recorded 164 mm, while Hindon received 134 mm. In Gautam Buddha Nagar, Tanda recorded 62 mm, while parts of Gurugram received between 27 mm and 36 mm of rainfall.
Temperature Drop and Forecast
The overnight showers brought temperatures down significantly, with the minimum temperature settling at 24.3 degrees Celsius. The IMD has forecast the maximum temperature to remain between 28 and 30 degrees Celsius under an overcast sky, with intermittent spells of light to moderate rain and heavy showers at isolated places through the day.
Warnings and Advisories
The weather office warned that continued rainfall could lead to waterlogging, traffic congestion, closure of underpasses, delays in rail and air services, and the risk of electrocution due to exposed power lines.
Residents have been advised to check traffic conditions before travelling, avoid waterlogged areas, stay away from electric poles and wires, and seek safe shelter during thunderstorms.
