Hyderabad MP and AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi raised serious concerns about law and order in the city on Saturday. He directly criticized the police intelligence network, calling it weak and ineffective. Owaisi spoke to reporters at Darus Salam, demanding immediate action from both the police department and the Congress-led state government.
Pattern of Nighttime Disturbances
Owaisi pointed out a troubling pattern emerging in Hyderabad. He stated that communal disturbances consistently occur after sunset. The politician revealed that about eighty percent of recent incidents happened during nighttime hours over the past several months. This observation came during his discussion about the Puranapul temple vandalism case that triggered significant tension.
"Communal forces should not be given any scope to operate," Owaisi emphasized. "Hyderabad represents an important brand and serves as a growing economic hub. We even have a future city developing here. The authorities must recognize this dangerous pattern of nighttime violence."
Questioning Police Response
The AIMIM leader specifically questioned the police handling of the Puranapul incident. He asked why officers used lathi-charge against a crowd that began pelting stones at Puranapul Darwaza. This police action followed news about the temple vandalism spreading through the area.
"Many innocent people became victims," Owaisi noted. "This included individuals simply traveling to marriage functions. The response seemed disproportionate and poorly coordinated."
Details of the January Incident
The Puranapul disturbance on January 14 resulted in significant damage and injuries:
- Ten people sustained injuries, including one police inspector and several constables
- Multiple vehicles suffered damage during stone-pelting
- Unidentified persons initially tore a flexi at the Puranapul temple
- A gathering crowd raised slogans, escalating tensions
- Protesters attacked a nearby shrine belonging to another community
- Vandals damaged graves and tore down a religious flag
- The mob set a two-wheeler on fire and disrupted traffic at the busy intersection
Call for Intelligence Strengthening
Owaisi made a clear demand for improved police intelligence capabilities. He stressed that law and order represents more than just a political issue. "This concerns the fundamental safety of every common citizen," the Hyderabad MP asserted. "The police must strengthen their intelligence gathering and response mechanisms immediately."
University Land Issue
Responding to separate questions, Owaisi addressed the state government's proposal regarding Maulana Azad National Urdu University. The government plans to take over fifty acres of land previously allotted to the university.
Owaisi indirectly criticized BRS party leaders for dragging AIMIM into this land controversy. "Those discussing AIMIM's position clearly don't understand my contributions to MANUU," he stated. The AIMIM president confirmed his party condemns any potential move by the university to transfer land to private developers.
"If the land has remained with the university all this time, it should continue staying with the institution," Owaisi concluded regarding the MANUU property matter.
