PM Modi Launches NDA Campaign in Tamil Nadu, Predicts DMK Government's End
Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared on Friday that the countdown has officially begun for the end of the DMK government in Tamil Nadu. Speaking at a significant political rally in Mathuranthakam, near Chennai, Modi asserted that the state is ready for a transformative change and desires liberation from DMK rule.
Call for Double-Engine Government and Unity Among Allies
Modi emphasized that Tamil Nadu urgently needs a BJP-led NDA government that would operate in perfect harmony with the central administration. He described this collaborative model as a double-engine government, essential for accelerating development, attracting substantial investments, and ensuring comprehensive security across the state.
The Prime Minister shared the platform with prominent NDA allies, including AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami, AMMK general secretary TTV Dhinakaran, PMK president Anbumani Ramadoss, and TMC president G K Vasan. Modi highlighted their unified resolve to free Tamil Nadu from DMK governance and transform it into a developed, secure, and corruption-free state.
Accusations Against DMK and Praise for Tamil Culture
In his address, Modi accused the DMK and its allies of displaying hostility toward Tamil culture, specifically referencing the recent lamp-lighting controversy in Thiruparankundram. He claimed that the DMK did not hesitate to challenge even judicial authorities in attempts to appease their vote bank.
Modi further criticized the current state administration, labeling it a CMC government—an acronym standing for corruption, mafia, and crime. He contrasted this with the NDA's commitment to transparent and accountable governance.
Invoking AIADMK Legacy and Development Promises
The Prime Minister paid tribute to AIADMK stalwarts M G Ramachandran and J Jayalalithaa, particularly praising the latter's initiatives aimed at ensuring women's safety. Modi assured that the NDA would carry forward this valuable legacy while implementing progressive policies.
Modi also targeted the Congress party, revealing that the NDA government has allocated approximately Rs 3 lakh crore to Tamil Nadu over the past eleven years. This amount, he noted, is three times greater than the funds provided during the UPA regime, underscoring the NDA's commitment to the state's development.
Commitment to Tamil Language and Concurrent Assembly Resolution
Demonstrating his personal connection to Tamil heritage, Modi expressed that the Tamil language has always had a profound impact on him. He mentioned gifting the ancient Tamil literary masterpiece, Thirukkural, to world leaders as a symbol of India's rich cultural heritage.
Meanwhile, in a related development, the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly unanimously adopted a resolution urging the central government to continue naming the rural employment guarantee scheme after Mahatma Gandhi. This move highlights the ongoing political discourse surrounding state-center relations and developmental priorities.
Modi's rally marks the formal commencement of the NDA alliance's electoral campaign in Tamil Nadu, setting the stage for a highly contested political battle in the upcoming state elections.
