In a decisive step to curb tipsy driving, the Pratapgarh police on Saturday night carried out a special checking drive at the Kotila Akhtiyari toll plaza on the Prayagraj-Lucknow highway, apprehending 12 truck drivers under the influence of alcohol. The drive was conducted between 9 pm and 12 midnight as a joint intensive operation by the Pratapgarh traffic police and the Hathigawan Police.
Joint Operation Led by Senior Officers
Led by Traffic Inspector Manoj Kumar and Hathigawan Police Station In-charge Satyendra Singh, police teams checked 120 drivers passing through the toll plaza using breath analyzers. Immediate action was taken against the offenders, with each fined Rs 10,000. The total compounding fees (challans) amounted to Rs 1,20,000.
Police Appeal for Road Safety
A senior police officer stated, 'The police have appealed to motorists to strictly adhere to road safety regulations. We have urged drivers not to drive under the influence of alcohol, as your safety is the foundation of your family’s happiness.' The officer added that similar strict action will continue to be taken in the future against those who violate traffic laws.
The drive underscores the commitment of the Pratapgarh police to ensure safer roads and deter drunk driving, which is a leading cause of accidents. Authorities have vowed to maintain vigilance and conduct regular checks to enforce compliance with traffic rules.
