Pune Gang Assaults Woman, Relatives Over Political Support in Civic Polls
Pune Gang Assaults Family Over Political Support

A shocking incident of political violence unfolded in Pune's Baner area on Thursday evening. A 38-year-old woman, two of her relatives, and her driver faced a brutal assault from a gang of five men. The attack occurred because the family openly supported a candidate in the ongoing civic elections.

Police Register Case Against Accused

The Baner police have taken swift action following a formal complaint from the victim. They registered a case of rioting and voluntarily causing grievous hurt against the five accused individuals. An officer confirmed the complainant is a relative of the Nationalist Congress Party candidate contesting from Baner-Balewadi ward number nine.

Election Support Triggers Violent Confrontation

According to police statements, the violence directly resulted from the family's vocal support for the NCP candidate during the election cycle. The accused men arrived at the woman's residence while polling was still underway on Thursday evening. They immediately began verbally abusing her about her political affiliations.

When the woman's driver tried to intervene and protect her, the situation turned physical. The men started thrashing the driver mercilessly. The assault then escalated dramatically as the group proceeded to beat the woman herself along with two of her relatives. One other individual present at the scene also suffered injuries during the attack.

Threats and Investigation Status

Before fleeing the location, the attackers allegedly threatened the family with dire consequences once the election period concluded. The Baner police confirmed their investigation is actively ongoing. However, they have not taken anyone into custody at this time.

"We are currently conducting a search for the accused and recording further statements," the investigating officer stated. The police are pursuing all available leads to identify and apprehend the perpetrators responsible for this politically motivated violence.
