Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to Meet Amit Shah in Delhi
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann will meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi on Saturday. Official sources confirmed the meeting. Mann plans to discuss several pending issues affecting Punjab.
Previous Meetings Between the Leaders
This is not the first time the two leaders have met. They last came together on September 30, 2025. That meeting followed devastating floods in Punjab. The floods caused significant damage across the state.
Later, Mann and Shah met again on November 17, 2025. They attended the Northern Zonal Council meeting in Faridabad. These interactions highlight ongoing discussions between the state and central governments.
Key Demands from Punjab Government
The Punjab government has made several important demands. They are seeking a special economic package. This package aims to offset losses from the floods. The estimated loss stands at Rs 12,905 crore.
Punjab also faces high security costs as a border state. The government wants financial support for these expenses. Another major issue involves Rural Development Funds.
The state demands the release of Rs 7,757 crore in withheld RDF funds. This money is crucial for rural development projects. Delays in release have hampered progress in many areas.
Push for Paddy Diversification
Punjab is pushing for higher incentives to diversify crops. Currently, farmers receive Rs 7,500 per acre for shifting away from water-intensive paddy. The state wants this increased to Rs 15,000 per acre.
This hike would encourage more farmers to adopt sustainable practices. It supports the state's goal to conserve water resources. Faster crop diversification remains a priority for the Punjab government.
Saturday's meeting will address these pressing matters. Mann aims to secure central support for Punjab's recovery and growth.
