Randhir Singh 'Dhira' Khuddian, the nephew of Punjab Agriculture Minister Gurmeet Singh Khuddian, has been appointed as the chairman of the Punjab State Container Warehousing Corporation (CONWARE). This appointment marks Dhira's return to an active public role after a prolonged political hiatus of two years.
Official announcement and reaction
Speaking to The Tribune, Dhira confirmed that he was informed about the development two days ago, but the official announcement was made on Tuesday. He expressed his gratitude for the opportunity and stated his commitment to fulfilling his responsibilities.
Previous political role
Dhira previously served as a deputy to Gurmeet Khuddian in the Lambi Assembly segment. In the 2022 state Assembly elections, Gurmeet Khuddian defeated former Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal from this constituency.
Congress resignation
The 55-year-old Dhira had resigned from his primary membership of the Congress party, as well as his post as Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) General Secretary, in December 2020. He had previously held several positions within the Congress, including General Secretary of the Punjab Youth Congress.
Facebook announcement
Gurmeet Khuddian took to Facebook on Tuesday to congratulate Dhira and inform the public about the appointment, highlighting the significance of this development.
Previous CONWARE chairman
Earlier, Banga MLA Sukhwinder Kumar Sukhi was the chairman of CONWARE. However, he stepped down in January this year after Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann's statement that 169 of the missing 328 saroops of the Guru Granth Sahib had been recovered from a religious place in Banga, Nawanshahr.
