SDPI Leader Criticizes Congress Stance on Votes, Warns of BJP Benefit
SDPI Slams Congress Vote Stance as Helping BJP

SDPI President Questions Congress Stance on Votes, Highlights BJP Risk

In a sharp critique, SDPI state president CPA Latheef has labeled the position taken by Leader of the Opposition V D Satheesan, who stated that SDPI votes are not needed, as both mysterious and potentially beneficial to the BJP. Addressing the media in Malappuram, Latheef expressed confusion over Satheesan's stand, noting that it contrasts with the views of other Congress and UDF leaders who have not publicly adopted such a stance.

Latheef Condemns Satheesan's Position as Indecent

Latheef emphasized that there is no obligation to support those who openly reject votes, describing Satheesan's approach as "indecent". He argued that while political opposition is acceptable, outright refusal of votes is fundamentally wrong and could undermine democratic processes. This criticism comes amid heightened electoral tensions in Kerala.

SDPI's Strategic Withdrawal and UDF Support Dilemma

Highlighting the party's broader objectives, Latheef revealed that the SDPI had withdrawn its candidate in Manjeshwar specifically to prevent a BJP victory. However, he stated that with Satheesan maintaining his controversial stand, supporting the UDF candidate has become impossible. This decision raises questions about vote consolidation in key constituencies.

Latheef called for clarity from the Congress party, asking whether Satheesan's position reflects its official policy. He also urged the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) to respond to this issue, emphasizing the need for unity among secular forces.

Contradictions Within Congress and Historical Context

Pointing out inconsistencies, Latheef noted that AICC general secretary K C Venugopal recently affirmed the party's willingness to accept votes from all sources. Additionally, he referenced Panakkad Sadiq Ali Shihab Thangal, who previously advocated for SDPI to avoid contesting in Manjeshwar to consolidate secular votes. Latheef argued that Satheesan's stance directly contradicts these earlier positions, creating confusion within the opposition ranks.

Comparison with LDF and Local Support Dynamics

In contrast, Latheef observed that LDF leaders have not rejected SDPI votes. While formal support has not been sought, he mentioned that local leaders in Nemom have expressed backing. He stressed that supporting the Left candidate in Nemom is crucial to keep the BJP out, as the contest is primarily between the CPM and BJP, highlighting the strategic importance of vote alignment in tight races.

This development underscores the complex political landscape in Kerala, where vote management and alliances play a pivotal role in election outcomes. Latheef's remarks signal ongoing tensions within the secular bloc, with potential implications for future electoral strategies and BJP's prospects in the region.
