Veteran Politician Makes Major Political Move
In a significant development in Tamil Nadu politics, former minister and expelled AIADMK leader KA Sengottaiyan officially joined Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) on Thursday. The joining ceremony took place at the party's head office in Panaiyur in the presence of actor-politician Vijay.
Vijay's Warm Welcome
Vijay extended a heartfelt welcome to Sengottaiyan through a video message, highlighting the veteran politician's extensive experience. Vijay recalled how Sengottaiyan had trusted MGR and joined his forum as a 20-year-old, taking on the responsibility of MLA at a young age and eventually becoming a trusted figure for the movement's two key leaders.
The actor-politician emphasized that Sengottaiyan's five decades in the same organization, combined with his political experience and fieldwork, would significantly support TVK's efforts and strengthen the party's foundation.
Symbolic Gesture Marks New Beginning
In a symbolic gesture marking his new political affiliation, Sengottaiyan was presented with a yellow-red TVK shawl by Vijay himself. This was particularly notable as the former minister was rarely seen sporting a shawl during his political career. Vijay respectfully addressed him as "Anna" (elder brother) and hailed his remarkable 50 years of political experience.
The former minister's political journey began when he joined the AIADMK in 1972, when the party was founded by the charismatic matinee idol M G Ramachandran (MGR) after his departure from the DMK due to differences with then chief M Karunanidhi.
Strengthening TVK's Ranks
Along with Sengottaiyan, former AIADMK MP Sathyabama and several of Sengottaiyan's supporters from AIADMK also joined TVK on Thursday, marking a substantial addition to the party's growing cadre base.
Vijay also welcomed others joining hands with the party to work alongside Sengottaiyan, expressing confidence that good things would happen and victory was certain with such experienced leadership onboard.
This political move represents a significant consolidation of TVK's position in Tamil Nadu politics, bringing aboard a seasoned politician with deep roots in the state's political landscape and extensive administrative experience.
