Tragic Fire Claims Lives of Two Young Siblings in Jamui Village
A devastating fire in a straw hut has claimed the lives of two young children in a remote village of Jamui district. The incident occurred in Kumratari village under the Barhat police station area.
Heartbreaking Details of the Incident
The victims have been identified as five-year-old Anita Kumari and her one-and-a-half-year-old brother Manish Kumar. They were the children of Vijay Koda, a resident of the village.
The tragedy unfolded while the children's mother was washing dishes nearby. Anita, who was playing in the barn area of their home, found a matchstick. Feeling cold, she attempted to warm herself by lighting the match. This simple act accidentally ignited the dry straw that made up their humble dwelling.
The fire spread with alarming speed through the flimsy structure. Inside the hut, little Manish was sleeping peacefully. When Anita realized her brother was in danger, she rushed back into the burning hut in a desperate attempt to save him. Tragically, both children became trapped inside the inferno.
Frantic Rescue Efforts and Aftermath
Another child from the family witnessed the horrifying scene and ran to alert their mother. By the time help arrived at the scene, it was too late. The intense blaze had already taken the lives of both siblings.
Upon receiving information about the tragedy, a police team led by Barhat police station in-charge Kumar Sanjeev rushed to the spot. Sub-inspector Suman Kumari and other personnel accompanied him. The police recovered the charred bodies of the two children and sent them to Jamui Sadar Hospital for postmortem examination.
The Station House Officer confirmed that both children had been completely charred in the fire. The sheer intensity of the blaze left no chance for survival.
Community Support for Grieving Family
Local mukhiya Jitni Devi provided immediate assistance to the devastated family. She gave them Rs 10,000 to help cover funeral expenses during this difficult time.
"We are deeply saddened by this tragic loss," said Jitni Devi. "Efforts are being made to ensure the victim's family receives appropriate government assistance and compensation. The entire community stands with them in their grief."
The incident has left the small village in mourning. Neighbors and relatives gathered to offer condolences to the bereaved parents, who lost both their children in a matter of minutes.
This tragic event highlights the dangers faced by families living in makeshift straw huts, particularly during colder months when people seek warmth through any available means. The vulnerability of such dwellings to rapid fire spread has once again resulted in heartbreaking loss.
