Tamil Nadu Speaker Lauds CM Stalin's Unwavering Stance in Assembly

In a significant address concluding the assembly session, Speaker M Appavu on Friday expressed high appreciation for Chief Minister M K Stalin, highlighting his firm and resolute approach on several critical matters over the past five years. Appavu specifically pointed to instances where Stalin stood firm against Governor R N Ravi, ensuring the state government's rights were upheld without compromise.

Standing Firm on Governor's Address

One of the key incidents recalled by Speaker Appavu involved the Governor's customary address to the assembly. Appavu noted that when Governor R N Ravi chose not to read the full address prepared by the state government, Chief Minister Stalin took a decisive stand. Stalin ensured that only the official address drafted by the state government was entered into the assembly records, despite the Governor's refusal to deliver it in its entirety. This move was praised as a crucial defense of the state's legislative autonomy and procedural integrity.

Supreme Court Victory on Bills

Appavu also highlighted another instance where Stalin's firmness led to a favorable outcome. When the Governor refused to give assent to bills passed by the Assembly, Stalin pursued legal recourse. The Chief Minister ensured that the state government secured a favorable judgement in the Supreme Court, thereby protecting the legislative powers of the Assembly. This was cited as a testament to Stalin's commitment to safeguarding state rights against executive overreach.

Recognition of MLAs' Conduct

In his concluding remarks, Speaker Appavu took the opportunity to commend the overall conduct of the MLAs during the session. He specifically acknowledged HR and CE minister P K Sekarbabu for being the most active minister, having responded to an impressive 76 questions. Similarly, PMK floor leader G K Mani was recognized for his diligent work, having raised the highest number of questions—totaling 66,974 over the last five years. This recognition underscores the active participation and dedication of the assembly members in fulfilling their legislative duties.

The Speaker's address not only celebrated the achievements and firm stance of the Chief Minister but also reinforced the importance of maintaining the assembly's dignity and rights in the face of challenges. The events described highlight ongoing tensions between the state government and the Governor's office, with Stalin's leadership being pivotal in navigating these disputes effectively.
