SAD President Sukhbir Badal Unveils Ambitious Welfare Vision at Punjab Rally

In a significant political address, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal has reaffirmed his commitment to the welfare of Punjab's underprivileged communities, outlining a series of enhanced social benefits if his party returns to power. Speaking at a well-attended 'Punjab Bachao' rally in Zira town, Ferozepur district, Badal emphasized that the core focus of the SAD remains the upliftment of the poor, farmers, and laborers.

Key Welfare Promises for Punjab's Future

Badal detailed specific proposals aimed at bolstering social security in the state. He pledged to increase the 'shagun' grant for daughters' marriages to a substantial Rs 1 lakh, a move designed to support families during significant life events. Additionally, he promised to raise the monthly old-age pension to Rs 3,100, providing greater financial stability for senior citizens. The SAD president also announced plans to restart the popular 'aata-daal' scheme, expanding it to include additional essential commodities. Under this initiative, wheat flour ('aata') and lentils ('daal') would be distributed at subsidized rates of Rs 4 and Rs 20 per kilogram, respectively, easing the burden of daily living costs for countless households.

Contrasting SAD's Vision with Opponents

Asserting a distinct political stance, Sukhbir Badal criticized what he termed "Delhi-based parties," including the Congress, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), and BJP, accusing them of exploiting Punjab rather than serving its interests. He highlighted the legacy of former chief minister Parkash Singh Badal, who pioneered numerous social welfare programs for weaker sections. Badal stated, "The SAD stands for the rights and aspirations of Punjabis, unlike these parties that only come to rule." He expressed confidence that the Panthic constituency is rallying behind the SAD, as evidenced by the enthusiastic reception at the Zira event, organized by constituency in-charge Harpreet Singh Hero.

Majithia Condemns AAP Government's Governance

Meanwhile, senior SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia delivered a scathing critique of the current AAP-led state government during the same rally. He condemned the administration for what he described as a deteriorating law and order situation and a suppression of press freedom. Majithia drew stark comparisons, likening Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to authoritarian figures like Saddam Hussein and Muammar Gaddafi, and alleging that Punjab has transformed into a 'police state' rather than maintaining its democratic ideals.

He lamented that the promise of a 'colourful Punjab' has devolved into a 'bloody Punjab,' where chaos prevails over order. Majithia further accused the government of targeting journalists and YouTube channels that expose its shortcomings, claiming that cases are routinely filed against them, leading to arrests and creating an atmosphere of emergency regarding media freedom. This criticism underscores the SAD's broader narrative of advocating for Punjab's autonomy and integrity against perceived external interference.
