Three individuals accused of murdering a close aide of West Bengal BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari have been remanded to 13-day police custody. The court order came on Thursday, allowing law enforcement to interrogate the suspects in connection with the killing.
Incident Details
The victim, identified as a loyalist of Adhikari, was brutally attacked earlier this week in East Midnapore district. The assailants allegedly targeted him due to political rivalry. Local police registered a case and arrested three suspects within 24 hours of the incident.
Legal Proceedings
The accused were presented before a local court, which granted police custody for 13 days. During this period, investigators aim to uncover the motive behind the murder and identify any other individuals involved. The prosecution argued that custodial interrogation was essential to recover weapons and establish the conspiracy.
Political Reactions
Suvendu Adhikari, the leader of opposition in West Bengal, condemned the murder and accused the ruling Trinamool Congress of fostering a climate of violence. He demanded a thorough investigation and strict punishment for the culprits. The Trinamool Congress denied any involvement and called for a fair probe.
Ongoing Investigation
Police are examining CCTV footage and collecting forensic evidence from the crime scene. They have also recorded statements from witnesses. The remand period is expected to yield crucial leads in the case.
