Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Joseph Vijay called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Wednesday during his visit to the national capital. According to news agency ANI, the chief minister is also scheduled to meet Vice President CP Radhakrishnan, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, and several other senior Union ministers on Thursday.
First Delhi Visit Since Becoming CM
This marks Vijay's first visit to Delhi since he assumed office as chief minister on May 10, following his party's victory in 108 of the 234 assembly seats in the Tamil Nadu elections.
Mekedatu Dam Issue Raised
Earlier on Tuesday, Vijay wrote to Prime Minister Modi, urging the central government not to allow the construction of the Mekedatu dam by the Karnataka government. In his letter, the chief minister stated that the project proposed by Karnataka was in clear violation of the Supreme Court's judgment. He also expressed concern over remarks made by Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar regarding the matter.
Possible Meetings with Allies
Vijay may extend his stay in Delhi to meet with political allies the following day. When asked about reports that he might also meet Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, a senior Congress leader stated, Nothing is confirmed as of now.
The chief minister's engagements in Delhi are being closely watched as they signal his administration's priorities and potential alliances at the national level.
