In a significant organizational development, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has appointed Tejashwi Prasad Yadav as its national working president. The announcement was made during the party's national executive meeting held on Sunday in Patna, marking a quiet yet decisive transfer of power to the younger generation within the state's principal opposition party.
A Strategic Move Amid Political Challenges
This elevation comes at a crucial juncture when the RJD is battling for political survival and facing the formidable challenge of keeping the 28-year-old outfit intact. The decision assumes greater significance as party patriarch Lalu Prasad Yadav has largely remained absent from party meetings and programs in recent years due to age-related health complications.
Against this backdrop, Tejashwi's appointment is being widely perceived as a strategic step towards ensuring organizational continuity and facilitating a smooth generational transition within the RJD's leadership structure.
Tejashwi's Vision and Immediate Plans
Soon after assuming his new role, Tejashwi Yadav, who currently serves as the leader of the opposition in the Bihar legislative assembly, outlined his immediate priorities and political strategy. He declared his intention to take the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) head-on and launch a comprehensive nationwide campaign against the ruling party in the coming days.
"For this purpose, I will tour various states across the country and engage in discussions with leaders of other anti-BJP political parties to launch a strong, coordinated campaign against the BJP at the national level," Tejashwi stated emphatically.
United Front Against NDA
The newly appointed working president also announced plans for a united fight against the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA). "Hamlog milkar ladenge (We will fight unitedly)," Tejashwi affirmed, while adding that his father Lalu Prasad Yadav had never compromised with his core ideology and that he would follow the same principled path.
Expressing confidence in shouldering his new responsibilities, Tejashwi revealed his plans to undertake an extensive tour of Bihar after the Holi festival. One of his key objectives would be working towards securing national party status for the RJD, which would significantly enhance its political standing and organizational reach across India.
Boosting Morale and Addressing Electoral Setbacks
In an effort to boost party morale, Tejashwi urged RJD workers not to lose heart despite recent electoral challenges. He highlighted that the RJD-led INDIA bloc had secured an impressive record of 1.90 crore votes in the polls, demonstrating substantial public support.
"We may have lost elections but not the courage. We will continue to move forward on our mission and will ultimately be successful," he asserted with determination.
The opposition leader also pointed out an interesting electoral detail: "We were ahead in 107 constituencies in postal ballot counting, but the NDA secured victory in EVM counting." While acknowledging that the current political phase presents difficulties, Tejashwi expressed confidence that the party would eventually emerge victorious through persistent effort and strategic planning.
