The Telangana state government has announced a significant administrative restructuring, pledging to reorganize districts, revenue divisions, and mandals across the state. The move, declared by Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, aims to rectify what the current administration labels as "mistakes" and an "unscientific" approach taken by the previous Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) government during their tenure.
Allegations of Arbitrary and Irrational Divisions
Speaking during the question hour in the state assembly on Tuesday, Minister Reddy presented a strong critique of the earlier reorganization. He asserted that mandals and districts were created in an arbitrary manner, which has led to persistent administrative anomalies and operational confusion.
The minister provided a concrete example, highlighting that in certain instances, four mandals belonging to a single assembly constituency were inexplicably placed into four separate districts. This fragmentation, he argued, causes significant inconvenience for both the public and officials, complicating governance and service delivery.
Basis of Previous Reorganization Questioned
Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy leveled serious allegations against the rationale used by the BRS government for the district divisions. He claimed the process lacked a rational basis and was skewed, favoring some areas while disadvantaging others.
In a striking revelation, the minister suggested that even considerations like 'so-called lucky' numbers were factored into the decision-making, rather than objective administrative or geographical logic. This backdrop, according to the government, creates a genuine and pressing need to establish new mandals and revenue divisions to streamline governance in Telangana.
The Path Forward: Deliberation and Consensus
The minister assured the legislative assembly that the state cabinet will thoroughly deliberate on this critical issue. The reorganization exercise is planned to be comprehensive, covering the entire state of Telangana.
"After getting the report, the government would take up reorganization with the consensus of everyone after discussing it in this House," Minister Reddy stated, emphasizing a collaborative and transparent approach. This indicates that the process will involve detailed reports, legislative discussion, and an effort to build consensus before implementation, contrasting it with the alleged haphazard methods of the past.
This proposed overhaul signals a major policy shift by the current government, focusing on correcting perceived past administrative errors to build a more efficient and logical governance framework for Telangana's future.
