Telangana's ₹450 Crore Temple Upgrade Plan

Massive Temple Transformation Initiative Begins in Telangana

The Telangana government has launched an ambitious statewide initiative to upgrade major shrines and strengthen temple infrastructure, backed by a comprehensive master plan and fast-tracked development works. The endowments department has earmarked nearly ₹450 crore for projects spanning key pilgrimage centers across the state.

Golden Upgrades and Institutional Expansion

At the renowned Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy temple in Yadagirigutta, a spectacular transformation is underway with 60 kg of gold plating for the Vimana Gopuram. This ornate work, estimated to cost approximately ₹8 crore, is targeted for completion before the upcoming Brahmotsavams festival.

The temple is also set for significant institutional expansion with plans including a state-of-the-art Vedic school spread over 17 acres with an investment of ₹43.79 crore. Additionally, the government is acquiring 101 acres for a new residential facility to support the temple's growing community of devotees and staff.

Major Funding Allocation Across Key Temples

Significant funding has been distributed to temples across Telangana to boost religious infrastructure and cultural heritage. The Raja Rajeshwara Swamy temple in Vemulawada has been allocated ₹76 crore, while the Sri Buddi Pochamma Ammavari temple will receive ₹20 crore for development works.

In Bhadrachalam, ₹60.2 crore has been sanctioned for land acquisition for the Sitaramachandra Swamy temple. Warangal's Sri Bhadrakali Ammavari temple will see ₹30 crore invested in strengthening its mada streets, improving accessibility for pilgrims.

Infrastructure and Connectivity Improvements

The infrastructure upgrade extends to critical road works and facility improvements at several temples. The Sri Lakshmi Venkateswara Swamy temple in Mahabubnagar district is poised for a major upgrade with a substantial ₹110 crore allocation for critical road connectivity projects.

Other notable allocations include ₹12.15 crore for Kodavatanchu Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy temple in Bhupalpally district, ₹3.2 crore for facilities at Sri Ramalingeshwara Swamy temple in Khammam, and ₹6.7 crore for upgrades at Salabatpur Sri Maruti temple in Kamareddy district.

Substantial Revenue Growth Reflects Success

Officials report that temple revenues have seen a dramatic increase in recent years, directly attributed to the focused development drive. Revenue from 699 temple institutions stood at ₹373.5 crore by the end of 2023.

With ongoing improvements and enhanced facilities, this figure reportedly rose significantly to ₹544.6 crore by 2024, demonstrating the positive impact of infrastructure investments on religious tourism and temple economies.

The comprehensive temple upgrade initiative represents one of the largest religious infrastructure development programs in Telangana's history, aiming to preserve cultural heritage while improving the experience for millions of devotees visiting these sacred sites annually.
