Headmaster Dies by Suicide After Quarrel in School

A headmaster of a government higher primary school in Kokkanur village, Harihar taluk, Davanagere district, allegedly attempted suicide on Tuesday and succumbed on Wednesday. Jayappa, 55, the headmaster, consumed poison following a quarrel with fellow teachers and kitchen staff.

Incident Details

Sources reported that after an internal dispute involving co-teachers, kitchen staff, and the headmaster, Jayappa suddenly went to the school toilet and consumed poison. He was rushed to the Chigateri district hospital in Davanagere by locals, but despite intensive care, he died on Wednesday.

Police Investigation

Malebennur police sub-inspector Haroon Akhtar stated that a quarrel between Jayappa and cooking staff led to the suicide. He was first admitted to the government hospital in Malebennur and later transferred to Chigateri district hospital. A case has been registered and investigation is underway.

Villagers' Account

Villagers revealed that a meeting was held on Monday with SDMC members and village elders. Another meeting on Tuesday involved education department officials. During that meeting, Jayappa became disappointed, went to the toilet, and consumed poison.
