In a tragic incident on the Bareilly-Mathura road in Badaun district, Uttar Pradesh, a tractor collided with an e-rickshaw, resulting in the deaths of two women and injuries to several others. The accident occurred on Thursday evening when the e-rickshaw was carrying passengers, including women and children.

Details of the Accident

According to police officials, the tractor was speeding and lost control, ramming into the e-rickshaw from behind. The impact was so severe that the e-rickshaw overturned, trapping several passengers underneath. Local residents rushed to the scene and helped extricate the victims, who were then taken to a nearby hospital.

The deceased have been identified as Sushila Devi, 45, and Radha Devi, 38, both residents of a nearby village. Three other passengers sustained serious injuries and are undergoing treatment at the district hospital. The condition of one of the injured is stated to be critical.

Police Response

Senior police officials, including the Station House Officer (SHO) of the local police station, reached the spot soon after the incident. The tractor driver fled the scene after the accident, and a search is underway to apprehend him. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.

"We are investigating the matter and have formed teams to nab the accused driver. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem, and further action will be taken as per law," said the SHO.

Road Safety Concerns

This accident has once again highlighted the issue of road safety on the Bareilly-Mathura road, which has witnessed several mishaps in the past due to rash driving and poor road conditions. Local residents have demanded better road infrastructure and stricter enforcement of traffic rules to prevent such incidents.

The district administration has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each to the families of the deceased and free treatment for the injured.
