Trader Arrested for Faking Robbery to Clear Debts

Prayagraj: A trader, Vimal Kumar alias Gopal, a resident of Paschim Sarira, was arrested by Kaushambi police on Wednesday evening for faking the loot of over Rs 50,000 on failing to clear debts.

Kumar claimed that three men looted him in Paschim Sarira town on May 2 when he was returning after closing his shop. The police finally cracked the case within 72 hours after investigations revealed that the alleged loot victim was lying.

In his complaint, Kumar alleged that three men stopped his bike near an under-construction house, snatched his money and gold chain. The police registered an FIR and carried out investigations.

The police found that the victim had borrowed Rs 50,000 from another shopkeeper in December last year, who was allegedly threatening him to fabricate false loot charges against him. When the police quizzed the victim strictly, he then admitted to having woven a fake story of loot as he had a debt worth Rs 6.5 lakh and hence needed the money.
