Bengal Govt Transfers Land to BSF for Bangladesh Border Fencing
Bengal Transfers Land to BSF for Border Fencing

The West Bengal government has granted approval for the transfer of land to the Border Security Force (BSF) for the construction of fencing along the India-Bangladesh border. Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari made the announcement on Tuesday, emphasizing the state's commitment to enhancing border security.

Land Transfer for Border Fencing

The decision to transfer land to the BSF is aimed at facilitating the completion of fencing work in critical areas along the international border. The fencing project is expected to curb illegal immigration, smuggling, and cross-border crimes. The state government has identified specific parcels of land that will be handed over to the BSF for this purpose.

Chief Minister Adhikari stated, "The security of our borders is of paramount importance. This land transfer will enable the BSF to erect fencing in areas where it is most needed, ensuring the safety and integrity of our nation's boundaries."

Implementation of Central Schemes

In addition to the border security measure, CM Adhikari announced the rollout of several flagship central government schemes in West Bengal. Most notably, the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) will be implemented in the state, providing health insurance coverage to economically vulnerable families.

Other Union government schemes that will be introduced include the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) for affordable housing, the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) for income support to farmers, and the Ujjwala Yojana for free LPG connections to poor households.

"These schemes have been successfully implemented in other states, and we are committed to bringing their benefits to the people of West Bengal," Adhikari said. "Our government will work closely with the Centre to ensure seamless execution."

Political Context

The announcement comes amid ongoing political tensions between the state government and the previous administration. Adhikari, who leads the current government, has been critical of the previous regime's reluctance to implement central schemes. He accused the former government of depriving the state's residents of benefits that citizens in other states have been enjoying for years.

"The previous government deliberately stalled these welfare programs for political reasons. We are now correcting that mistake and bringing development to every corner of West Bengal," he added.

Impact on Border Security

The fencing along the Bangladesh border is a long-pending project. With the land transfer now approved, the BSF can proceed with construction in previously stalled segments. Officials expect the fencing to significantly reduce unauthorized crossings and improve surveillance capabilities.

The state government has assured full cooperation with the BSF and other central agencies in maintaining border security. Additional measures, including the deployment of advanced technology and increased patrolling, are also being considered.

This development is seen as a major step toward strengthening national security and integrating West Bengal more closely with central government initiatives.
